The 2C-x Problem
The 2C family (2C-B, 2C-I, 2C-E, 2C-C, 2C-T-2, 2C-T-7) shares a phenethylamine backbone but diverges dramatically in dose, effect, and safety margin. 2C-B is active at 15-25mg. 2C-I is active at 10-20mg. 2C-E is active at 10-15mg. 2C-T-7 has been associated with multiple deaths at doses above 30mg.
Standard reagents — Marquis, Mecke, Mandelin — cannot reliably distinguish between 2C-x compounds. They all produce similar yellow-to-green color progressions. This is where Robadope becomes essential.

- Marquis: 2C-B turns yellow → green within 30 seconds. MDMA turns purple/black. This immediately rules out MDMA substitution.
- Mecke: 2C-B turns yellow → green/brown. Consistent across most 2C-x compounds.
- Mandelin: 2C-B typically produces no reaction or a very faint color change. Useful as a negative control.
- Robadope: 2C-B contains a primary amine → rapid color change to pink/red. MDMA does not → no reaction or very slow faint pink.
Distinguishing 2C-B from 2C-I
Robadope cannot distinguish between 2C-B and 2C-I — both contain primary amines. For definitive identification between 2C-x compounds, laboratory analysis (GC-MS or FTIR) is required.
The Safety Context
2C-B is generally considered among the safer psychedelics — no deaths have been attributed to 2C-B alone. However:
- Misrepresented 2C-B is common. MDMA, methamphetamine, or research chemicals are frequently sold as 2C-B.
- Dose sensitivity is higher than MDMA. The difference between a light experience (10mg) and a strong one (25mg) is only 15mg.
- 2C-I and 2C-E have narrower safety margins than 2C-B. If your 2C-B is actually 2C-I, your expected dose may be 2x more potent than anticipated.
