What psychedelics do to your body (the honest list)

  • Heart rate up. Stimulants and psychedelics both raise resting HR. On a climb, that compounds.

  • Thirst suppression. This is the quiet killer — users simply don't feel thirsty until dehydrated.

Altitude: the compounding factor

Real heat-stroke signs to delegate to the sober guide: hot dry skin (no sweating), confusion that's worse than the trip baseline, slurring, collapse. That's a 911 call — not a "sit down and breathe" moment.

Heat rules:

  • Start early, off the trail by early afternoon in summer.
  • Water on a schedule: 500 ml every 30–45 minutes of exertion, regardless of thirst.
  • Electrolytes, not just water, for trips over 2 hours.
  • Shade breaks and a wet bandana/hat — cheap, effective.

The hydration plan

  1. Before: 500–750 ml in the hour before you start. Not a liter right before — that's a different kind of discomfort.
  2. During: schedule-based sips, not thirst-based. Set a timer on a watch or phone.
  3. After: keep drinking — comedown dehydration is real and makes the next-day hangover worse.
