Cartel Meth Superlabs: Mexico, Nigeria & Golden Triangle

Mexican cartels are moving meth production to Nigeria and South Africa, while Mexico and the Golden Triangle keep producing at scale. The supply is globalizing.

The Supply Is Globalizing

The meth trade used to follow a simple map. The Golden Triangle in Asia made precursors, Mexico made finished product, and both shipped to rich countries. In 2026, that map has grown.

Cartels Outsourcing to Africa

The biggest new development is outsourcing. The BBC reported in July 2026 that Mexican drug cartels have outsourced meth labs to Nigeria. Al Jazeera reported in June 2026 that cartels had turned South African farms into meth production hubs.

Cartels are finding it cheaper and safer to produce meth closer to some markets, using local chemistry and local operators.

Mexico Still Produces

Inside Mexico, the raids continue. CBS reported in March 2026 that 14 million doses of fentanyl were seized from a secret lab. In February 2026, a raid on a hidden Mexican lab seized over 5,000 pounds of meth.

The Golden Triangle Still Feeds Asia

The Golden Triangle, where Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos meet, remains the supply source for much of Asia. In August 2026, the UNODC warned that meth trafficking across the Middle East was becoming more advanced.

Separately, Thailand freed a drug kingpin aged 86, Laota Saenli, under a royal pardon in August 2026, Thaiger reported. It is a reminder of how deep the region's drug trade runs.

What It Means for Users

When production globalizes, the product changes. Meth from a new lab in a new country is not the same batch as last month's, and neither is the powder you buy. Test every new batch.
