Acetone Wash Your Cocaine: The Complete Step-by-Step Guide with Testing Protocol

An acetone wash removes caffeine and active cuts from cocaine in 10 minutes. Here's the exact steps, what you need, and why you should fentanyl strip first.

Why Wash Cocaine

Street cocaine averages 30-60% purity. The rest is cuts, caffeine, benzocaine, levamisole, creatine, and increasingly fentanyl. An acetone wash removes acetone-soluble cuts (caffeine, some active adulterants). It does NOT remove sugars, creatine, or levamisole, and it does NOT remove fentanyl.

Test first. Wash second.

What You Need

  • 100% anhydrous acetone (hardware store, must be water-free)
  • Epsom salts (to dry the acetone, bake at 400°F for 2 hours)
  • Coffee filter or unbleached paper filter
  • Small glass dish
  • Razor blade

Step-by-Step

  1. Dry your acetone, spread Epsom salts on a baking sheet, bake at 400°F for 2 hours until chalky white. Add cooled salts to acetone, swirl, let sit 10 min. Filter out salts.
  2. Fentanyl strip first, test a small sample before washing. If positive for fentanyl, acetone won't remove it. Fentanyl strips here.
  3. Grind cocaine to fine powder on glass dish.
  4. Cover with dried acetone, just enough to submerge.
  5. Stir gently 1-3 minutes, cuts dissolve, cocaine doesn't (it's not acetone-soluble).
  6. Pour through filter, what stays in the filter is your product.
  7. Dry 15-20 minutes, scrape and weigh.

What This Does NOT Remove

  • Fentanyl
  • Sugars, creatine, inositol (not acetone-soluble)
  • Levamisole (requires hexane, not recommended for home use)
  • Lidocaine (stubborn cut, very hard to remove)

Testing After Washing

After the wash, re-test with:

  1. Morris reagent, confirms cocaine (turns blue)
  2. Liebermann reagent, checks for remaining levamisole (olive-green)
  3. Fentanyl strip, re-test after wash

The Lab-Grade Option: Mail-In Drug Checking Services

Home reagents and strips give you an answer in under a minute, but they are presumptive tests — they react to chemical classes, they do not run a full lab panel. If you ever want confirmatory, instrument-grade analysis (GC-MS or FTIR level) of a sample, mail-in drug checking services are the honest way to get it:

  • [DrugsData.org](https://www.drugsdata.org/) (US) — the Erowid-affiliated lab. Public sample analysis; runs on donations (~$150/sample). Publishes results to a public database.
  • [Energy Control](https://energycontrol.org/) (Spain/EU) — harm-reduction association offering mail-in analysis for residents and EU travelers.
  • [Kykeon Analytics](https://kykeonanalytics.com/) (Canada) — mail-in lab service for Canadian residents, with discreet sample submission and per-panel pricing.
  • [WEDINOS](https://www.wedinos.org/) (Wales, free for UK residents) — the Welsh national drug checking service.

Read the legal fine print first. Sending a sample through the post is itself regulated — in many countries shipping controlled substances (even residue) is an offence, and international mailing adds customs risk. Only use a service based in the region you are in, and follow its submission guidance to the letter. These services exist precisely because lab checks are valuable — but they are not something to do casually or across borders.

A realistic split: mail-in labs for the occasional deep-dive second opinion, home reagents and strips for the check before every single batch — washing, cuts, and fentanyl screens all need an answer in minutes, and no lab can time that. The kits above cover the everyday protocol.
