Testing Methamphetamine
Methamphetamine is one of the most commonly tested substances — and one of the most frequently cut. MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), a supplement sold for joint health, is the most common cutting agent because it forms crystals that look like meth.
Marquis Reagent
Methamphetamine + Marquis → orange/brown (rapid). This distinguishes meth from MDMA (purple/black) and cocaine (no reaction or faint yellow).
Mecke Reagent
Methamphetamine + Mecke → no reaction or faint yellow. A green/blue reaction indicates possible MDMA contamination.
Simon's Reagent
Methamphetamine + Simon's → blue (rapid). Simon's detects secondary amines — methamphetamine is a secondary amine. This is a key confirmation.
Fentanyl Strip
Dissolve ~10mg in water. Test. One line = fentanyl — do not use. Fentanyl contamination in meth is rarer than in cocaine or counterfeit pills, but it is documented and the consequence is death.
The MSM Problem
MSM is difficult to detect with reagents. It produces minimal or no reaction with Marquis, Mecke, or Mandelin. If your meth produces a weak reaction or seems to have less effect than expected at a normal dose, MSM cutting is likely. Lab analysis is the only way to quantify purity.
