In August 2026, Ocean County, New Jersey, opened its first machine, News12 reported, and East Texas got one the same month, according to cbs19. Staten Island opened free overdose kit machines earlier in the year.
The Rollback in Oklahoma
The exception is Oklahoma. In July 2026, Public Radio Tulsa reported that the state's high profile naloxone vending machine program was gone, leaving communities scrambling to fill the gap.
It is a reminder that harm reduction funding is not permanent, and that access can be taken away as quickly as it is added.
